Montville School Social Worker

Greetings students, families, educators and Montville community members! I am relatively new to Montville, but not new to school social work. School social workers are part of collaborative school teams that empower students to use the necessary skills to enhance learning such as pro-social skills, emotional regulation and growth mindset that supports all students’ ability to achieve academically. School social work supports the healthy development of the whole child. Support may occur in or outside of the classroom and may also extend to the child’s home (an essential part of his or her school team). Healthy relationships between school and family foster increased student success. Instructional support may occur by helping identify strategies to address individual student needs that might interfere with learning readiness. Direct interventions may occur individually or occasionally in small groups. Staff and families may seek assistance regarding student concerns as they arise. There may be cause for brief support as life presents many challenges such as relocation, divorce, other life change, loss and/or a sudden change in behavior. Other issues occur over time, such as behaviors influenced by a child’s overall wellness or truancy, and benefit from ongoing intervention. I service the middle school and Mohegan Elementary and can be used as a resource throughout the district, which can create a useful bridge for students and families. I work closely with the on-site school psychologists and counselors to supplement the wonderful work they are already doing. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding the services I am able to provide. Families and guardians may also contact your child’s school directly to learn more about how to work together to help your student.
