A Message from the Principal
Mrs. Mary Jane Dix
Welcome to the 2011-12 school year!
It is an honor to work for the Montville students and community. Education today has rigorous standards dictated by the Federal and State government. The teachers and administration at Tyl have worked diligently to educate your children to meet those academic and behavior standards. We have re-structured much of the work we do so that collegial teams of teacher collaborate in Professional Learning Communities to develop rigorous curriculums, assessments and successful teaching strategies. Each year we find ways to provide additional support for students who struggle. Last year we re-structured our Reading Intervention program to make it more effective. This new program showed immediate results. We have added academic intervention classes to assist failing students. Our teachers offer after school help sessions and additional support through our daily X-Block. We also look to meet the needs of our advanced students through a rigorous curriculum, enrichment classes and independent studies along with giving them access to advanced classes when they meet the criteria. Our staff is energetic, hardworking and dedicated to the education and success of all our students.
Along with our academic work, we strive to provide a balanced experience for our students through our Exploratory program which offers, music, physical education, technology education, computer, art, health, and world language. We also offer an extensive after school program which includes clubs and intramural sports along with academic support.
Students at Tyl are well taken care of through the over sight of teacher teams and in coordination with our Students Service staff. Each grade level has a guidance counselor who attends team meetings and provides invaluable support for our students academically, socially and emotionally. Along with guidance counselors we utilize the services of a district Social Worker, School Psychologist and Nurse. This extensive network of care ensures that our students, your children have a successful and productive middle school experience.
As we work at the school level to ensure student success, we ask that parents to remain involved with their children’s school experience. Research clearly indicates benefits when parents are involved their student’s education. These benefits include academic achievement, healthy attitudes towards school and better school attendance. Effective home/school communications is vital through the transitional middle school years.
